XBL Deal of the Week – Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Posted by jimpower05 on May 27, 2009

A couple of week’s ago it was revealed that Bionic Commando: Rearmed was getting a price drop on the PSN and on May 25th Xbox Live Gold members would soon get their own discount on the game. Yes, the time is now so as a late, but friendly reminder be sure to pick up this classic remake for only 400 MSP (5.00 USD). Here’s a little video just in case you need any convincing.

As a fan of the original NES title I’ve been avidly enjoying the remake so be sure to tune in on my review of Bionic Commando: Rearmed on the Heads Up! Display this Friday. This is one the higher quality games on Xbox Live Arcade so please show your support and thank the developers by picking up this title. You only have until Sunday and then the deal ends!

Amazon Deals for XBLA games – Doom and Pacman C.E.

Posted by jimpower05 on April 14, 2009

UPDATE: Doom is now back at the regular price of $5.00 and Pac-Man C.E. is no longer discounted and it is once again $10.00

If you haven’t noticed Amazon has recently opened up their own store for Xbox Live Arcade titles pricing them at dollar amount rather than the Microsoft points. It’s very easy as all you do is purchase the games directly from Amazon and the codes are viewable immediately. Since yesterday the original Doom has been reduced to $2.97 from it’s marketplace price of $5.00 while Pac-Man C.E. is going for $4.97 from it’s ten dollar tag. At these prices how can you deny the purchase of these games if you don’t already have them? I’m not sure how long the deal is going to last so I’d pick them up as soon as possible. I’ll be sure to post about upcoming deals and let you know when current ones expire.

Harmonix Debuts Rock Band Unplugged for PSP (Amplitude in disguise)

Posted by jimpower05 on April 8, 2009

Earlier this year I heard rumblings of Rock Band coming to PSP and was wondering what exactly Harmonix had planned for the handheld installment. In an episode of Podcast Beyond, Ryan Clements of IGN, had prayed that this version of Rock Band would actually go back to the roots of Harmonix with Amplitude/Frequency, and it seems as though his dream has come true. Kotaku has the story on the trailer debut for Amplitude Rock Band Unplugged and gameplay looks similar to Amplitude with the Rock Band skin. Check it out.

For those unfamiliar with the Amplitude be sure to check out the video below. I was introduced to this rhythm based PS2 gem a few years back by my girlfriend and was instantly hooked. It was much different than Rock Band in that you aren’t just emulating the song but manipulating it. Rock Band and Guitar Hero fanatics alike should do themselves a favor and either hunt down Amplitude or be ready to pick up Rock Band Unplugged.

Penny Arcade Episode 1: XBL Deal of the Week

Posted by jimpower05 on April 6, 2009

Confirmed via Major Nelson’s blog Penny Arcade Episode 1 is half off bringing the cost down from 1600 MSP ($20.00 USD) to 800 MSP ($10.00 USD) which is practically a steal.

Penny Arcade Episode 1

The wonderfully strange and hilarious minds of Penny Arcade creators Mike “Gabe” Krahulik and Jerry “Tycho” Holkins have joined with legendary game designer Ron Gilbert and veteran producers Hothead Games to bring you the insanity that is Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One. This first installment of the episodic role-playing adventure game series is set in the highly stylized 1920s universe of New Arcadia filled with bizarre characters, outrageous combat, and adult humor.”

The Behemoth Game # 3 Trailer Announcement

Posted by jimpower05 on March 30, 2009

The Behemoth was on the top of my gaming list for all of 2008 ever since I picked up Castle Crashers, followed by a late purchase of Alien Hominid HD and as soon as they’ve fallen off of my radar they have managed a way to get back on. They have recently released a trailer showing off an early build of their third game. The charming character designs the company’s been known for are back in what looks like a very co-op orientated platformer. The unannounced title is set to hit sometime in 2010.

For more info on the game be sure to visit The Behemoth’s blog and follow them via Twitter.

Gears of War 2 Title Update + New Map Pack = Happy?

Posted by jimpower05 on March 26, 2009

TU3sday arrived (clever eh?) on the 24th of this month delivering the third title update for Gears of War 2 resolving many issues surrounding weapons and gameplay balance. The update has been long awaited by hardcore Gears and Locusts alike but was it worth it? Some of the notable additions made to the game include the new XP ranking system similar to Halo 3 & Call of Duty, Country Preference system (NOT A FILTER), and new achievements tied to the ranking system. Full list of changes here.

The Grind Yard

Following the update a new map pack will arrive on the 31st bringing in an old favorite from the first Gears of War including 3 new maps. The Snowblind map pack contains Grind Yard, Under Hill, Courtyard and a snowy Fuel Depot. The map pack will run you 800MSP (10.00 USD). To sum things up the ranking system is satisfying and gives you that feeling of progression, the gameplay seems a bit more balance (except for the shotgun), and getting into matches is no longer a lengthy endeavor. With the good things aside it seems that the community as a whole has found that “roadie runs” and getting out of cover now feel slower but after adapting to the change of pace it is still Gears of War 2. See you online.
